Beyond Reality: How I Turn Your Moments into a Visual Fairytale

There is a subtle line between documenting an event and telling a story. If documentary photography is about what happened, fairytale-inspired photography is about how that moment felt.

Many of the couples who choose AB Studio Creative ask me: “How do you make everything look so magical?” The answer isn’t a magic trick, but a carefully crafted combination of light, technique, and artistic vision.

Here’s how I love to create those dreamlike atmospheres that transform a wedding into a timeless narrative.

1. The Hunt for “Golden Light”

The foundation of any fairytale effect is light. I almost never use harsh flash that flattens the atmosphere. Instead, I prefer the Golden Hour—that moment just before sunset when the light becomes warm, soft, and enveloping. It’s during this time that reality transforms: the air seems to glow, and every outline is kissed with a golden halo straight out of an illustrated storybook.

2. The Power of Bokeh and Shallow Depth of Field

To create a sense of magical isolation, I love using lenses with very wide apertures. This allows me to achieve a silky-soft bokeh (the blur in the background). When the background melts into pastel tones, the subjects emerge with a unique delicacy, as if they were floating in a parallel world, far from the chaos of reality.

3. Natural Elements as Enchanted Frames

I love shooting through something. Whether it’s a flowering branch, a blade of grass, or the bride’s veil, these elements create soft, natural frames in the foreground. This technique adds depth and gives the viewer the feeling of peeking into a secret, precious moment—just like in the most beautiful fairytales.

4. A Painterly Post-Production

The final touch happens in the studio. I never aim for artificial colors; instead, I prefer an organic, painterly palette. I work on midtones to give skin an ethereal glow and slightly soften harsh contrasts. The goal is to create an image that doesn’t just look like a photograph, but like a digital painting you could hang in your home for decades.

“Photography is not about looking, it’s about feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, you’ll never be able to make others feel anything when they look at your photos.”

Why choose a fairytale touch?

Because your wedding day is a moment outside of time. It deserves to be remembered not just for who was there or what was served, but for that incredible, beautiful sense of unreality you experienced.

If you dream of a photographic story that goes beyond simple documentation, you’re in the right place. Let’s turn your memories into legend.
